This code is not diesel-only and does not identify one failed high-pressure pump.
P0148 means Fuel Delivery Error. The controller has recorded a delivery problem under the applicable operating conditions. The code does not specify one failed pump, establish contaminated fuel or prove an injector defect. Gasoline applications are documented as well as other fuel-system architectures.
Save the full scan and starting or running circumstances. Identify the fitted fuel system, verify fuel availability and safely compare actual supply performance with electrical support and sensor feedback. A commanded pump, audible operation or a plausible pressure PID does not independently prove adequate delivery.
What Does the P0148 Code Mean?
Fuel must reach the engine in the condition required for its current operation. The diagnostic question is where that process fails: availability at the pickup, low-pressure supply, pump electrical support, pressure control or the information used to evaluate delivery. These branches require different tests and should not be collapsed into a pump replacement list.
Low-side supply and high-pressure delivery are distinct where both stages are fitted. A downstream pressure shortfall can follow an upstream supply problem. Conversely, a misleading sensor signal can make delivery appear wrong even when the physical measurement is credible. Identify the actual architecture before naming a failed stage.
P0148 provides less component detail than a dedicated circuit-direction or sensor-location code. Companion faults, operating conditions and the current OEM procedure determine the next test. A fault that appears during cranking, after inclined parking or under load may require different evidence; those circumstances are clues, not independent diagnoses.

P0148 OEM Differences and DIY Limits
Volkswagen Tech Tip 20-18-01TT, revised September 2020, describes certain 2018–2019 Atlas crank/no-start complaints after prolonged inclined parking with low fuel. It identifies a possible in-tank retention issue. This is a limited application example, not a general instruction to replace every P0148 pump or reproduce the condition by home lifting.
The cited OEM documents show why P0148 must not be described as diesel-only.
Parking-related no-start and running delivery loss do not establish the same failure.
